Our Executive Director Kaitlin Thaney joined a meeting of the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) Strategies for Open Collaboration in Library Consortia (SOCLC) Task Force on May 30. The SOCLC Task Force was initially formed to develop strategies for consortia and libraries to interact with vendors and the open-source community to address pricing, standards/interoperability, and access challenges.
The Task Force has developed a report titled "Strategies for Collaboration - Opportunities and Challenges to Build the Future We Need", in which they argued that libraries must empower themselves by reestablishing agency and reasserting control over the technical infrastructure critical to libraries' success. They made suggestions at differing levels of technical complexity and financial commitment to provide libraries with various entry points to contribute to the overall goal. The Task Force is considering how best to leverage IOI's work to help consortia move forward into open infrastructure.
In her talk, Kaitlin presented the Catalog of Open Infrastructure Services (COIs), some of the rich feedback from key stakeholders through our user research, and our plans to scale COIs and make it more actionable for those looking to fund and adopt open infrastructure. She also shared information on the Open Infrastructure Fund call for proposals.
