The West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) 2024 conference aims to explore how African research and education networks can strategically adapt to future challenges, empowering attendees to chart their course forward, implement changes, and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the field. The annual conference, this year taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, from March 7-9, brings together researchers, academia, government, research organizations and funders to discuss how to leverage their strengths to be more productive and relevant and catalyze socio-economic development through research and education. The theme of the conference is - 'Charting The Course: Forging Future-Ready Higher Education and Research Communities'
Our Executive Director, Kaitlin Thaney, will moderate a panel discussion at the conference titled "Cultivating Solutions: Open Infrastructure for Agriculture, Climate and Public Health Research in Africa today". Panelists will explore the intersection of Africa's agriculture, climate dynamics, and public health systems, emphasizing the importance of open infrastructure to facilitate research and foster collaboration.
The panellists are:
- Prof Patrick Ofori, Executive Secretary of The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM),
- Dr Francis Ohanyido, Director-General of the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH),
- Prof Ayo Ajayi, Head of Department, Agriculture and Environmental Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
