Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is working hard to envision an equitable, open ecosystem of scholarly and research infrastructure. We can’t do that without input from, and discussions with you — the community. That’s why IOI’s Community Oversight Council is hosting conversations with people thinking about, and working on, cooperative, open information infrastructure.

Join us for our first public discussion on May 5th at 2:00pm EDT (see this in your time zone), with Afua Bruce and Amy Sample Ward, authors of The Tech That Comes Next: How Changemakers, Philanthropists, and Technologists Can Build an Equitable World. Their book goes to the roots of technology, investigating ways to fund, build, and support equitable, community-focused tech infrastructure.

To prepare for the discussion, we’re asking attendees to read two excerpts from The Tech That Comes Next:

  1. Technology Development for the Social Impact Sector, published on the Porchlight Book Company blog, March 23, 2022.
  2. Purpose-Built Platforms, published in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, March 15, 2022.

The conversation will be recorded. A short summary and recording will be shared on our blog in the week following the call.

We look forward to talking about how to build a more equitable tech world. Please contact Emmy Tsang (emmy@investinopen.org) with questions about this conversation.
